I praktik hos WHO!?!?

Igennem WCCS er WCCS-udvalget en del af en mailingliste der hedder Thinkers List. Gennem den første fastansatte kiropraktor hos WHO er der nu kommet nedenstående mail, hvor man kan få muligheden for at komme i et unikt praktikophold hos WHO i Geneve.

Many of you are already aware, but in early January I took on a new position within the World Health Organization as the Project Officer for a new international statistical classification in the cluster for Information, Evidence, and Research. This classification will be a parallel project to the International Classification of Diseases (ICD), and will include diagnostic entity information on TM/CAM practices which has historically been unrepresented or underrepresented within the ICD. The long term goal is for this knowledge to be fully integrated within the 11th revision of the ICD, to ensure that all diagnostic coding can be found in one place. I am hugely excited about this project, as it will be the tangible foundation necessary for full integration of TM/CAM practices into existing health services, it will serve as a fundamental and definitive component of all future healthcare research, and it will be a major tool in the elimination of parity laws and discrimination against non-MD health care providers.

Oh, and we intend to publish the first edition by 2014.

Needless to say, this project is massive, and right now I am doing it alone under the auspice of my supervisor, the Coordinator of the Classifications, Terminologies, and Standards technical unit. I could definitely use some help.

I have been approved to accept 2-4 interns over the next 4 months to assist with the compiling of existing TM/CAM resources, the generation of informational databases on TM/CAM terminologies, literature reviews on similar work, and the preparation of multiple international meetings, among many other tasks.

The application period for interns for the summer months in IER closed on 31 January, and I am currently reviewing several hundred applications. If there are additional applicants with a TM/CAM background, however, I would be glad to accept late applications directly. Each candidate will be required to complete the online application process, but as this takes time, I will miss the individuals who do not do both.

Please note that a strong academic record, demonstrated commitment to professional leadership, and impeccable written and verbal communication skills are a must. Additional preferred characteristics will include broad understanding of multiple TM/CAM modalities, good critical appraisal skills, and ability to work with multiple languages. English fluency is required (Written/Spoken), and Chinese, Korean, or Japanese (written) would be a huge benefit. French is useful in Geneva, but is not required.
