The ECCE is an international autonomous organization established by the chiropractic profession in Europe to accredit and re-accredit institutions providing undergraduate chiropractic education and training.

The principal goal of the ECCE is to assure the quality of chiropractic undergraduate education and training against a set of educational Standards.

The Standards are intended for use by chiropractic institutions, both in the public university and private college sector, predominately (but not exclusively) in Europe, in institutional self-evaluation of their educational programmes, and for use by international committees and bodies involved in the recognition and accreditation of chiropractic institutions worldwide.

Once an institution has demonstrated that it has met all of the Standards and has graduated its first cohort, the programme will be accredited for up to five years. Prior to full accreditation an institution may apply for Candidate for Accreditation status.

Currently the ECCE accredits four programmes in Europe, two of which are based in a University setting, University of Glamorgan in Wales and Syddansk Universitet in Denmark, one programme is validated by the University of Bournemouth (Anglo-European College of Chiropractic, Bournemouth, England) and a programme delivered at the Institut Franco-Européen de Chiropratique (IFEC) in Paris, France.

The ECCE is one of the founding members of the Councils on Chiropractic Education International (CCEI) with the US, Canadian and Australasian Councils on Chiropractic. It is the only chiropractic educational accreditation agency serving Europe that is a member of CCEI and that is recognized by the profession and the other CCEs around the world.

Through its membership in CCEI, the ECCE adheres to the CCEI Model Standards which include educational criteria and accreditation procedures. Such adherence indicates essential equivalence of the educational standards of all CCEI members agencies and, thereby, the competency of individuals graduating from institutions by ECCE and all member CCEs.
